is it okay not to have dreams?
to not have a plan?
mum said "i'm worried your brother doesn't have any dreams..."
and my immediate reaction was "it's OKAY. he doesn't need to have a plan...he's only 16!!"
is it okay not to have ambition, ideas, drive....
maybe it isn't okay.
i always did but sometimes i wonder what it's like to be satisfied. to not be always always always driving for perfection, for excellence, for success.
to be satisfied with just keeping to the status quo, or exerting a minimal amount of effort. to not be driven by something inside that tells me - you can do better than that.
i respect people with this drive. i admire them. yet it can also get really tiring...
i would like my brother to have drive and ambition, yes. it would be wonderful to see him being driven by a dream to achieve something - anything that he can be passionate about. it doesn't matter what. and it's true i haven't seen that in him yet.
but at the same time no one can tell him to have dreams...and maybe it's okay if he doesn't.
somewhere along the way, he will find his own path, i think. i believe, and have faith. maybe he'll need a little prodding, a little guidance, a little inspiration along the way, and inspiration not given by his family might work the best..
but no, none of this "you have to have dreams" nonsense. no...
i wonder if i'm being contradictory.
