forgot my camera again

met up with a friend who flew in from beijing and i finally got to check out omoidase yokocho (the lane of memories, literally) - this cramped small street packed with yakitori (kebabs/satay) counters and ramen counters and sushi counters, right in the middle of shinjuku, one of the busiest places in tokyo.

we ate ramen and gyoza, and i was speaking in english the whole time so obviously the japanese ppl ard me knew we weren't japanese (sometimes i manage to pass off for a japanese person, at least till i start speaking japanese *grin*). so this old guy sitting with his friend next to us, drinking beer and eating fried noodles (yakisoba), decided to offer a bottle of sauce to me for our gyoza. i was honestly going to take up his offer when he hurriedly withdrew his offer and started laughing...and his friend said,"sumimasen, warui ojisan.." (which means, "sorry, this bad grandfather..")

it was quite amusing. *grin*

the food wasn't spectacular though, but oh well. it was fun, and there's a lot more food to check out.

headed out to my 2 australian friends' farewell gathering at a tiny australian-run bar in shinjuku after dinner. they're headed out in 2 weeks time for their trek across japan, one walking from north to south, and the other from south to north. (i've definitely posted their website before, but i'll post it again. it's fourcornersofjapan.net.)

wonder what it's actually like to live life like that. yesterday one of my housemates tried to predict where i'll be in 10 years time. it wasn't surprising to me that he outlined a scenario that was really quite likely to happen.

am i really that predictable?

:) wish i could do something unpredictable, for once. there's this innate sense of self-control that governs my life, that i wish i could sometimes lose.

but then again, perhaps i have already, to some extent.


the thesis is chugging along. slowly.


and the days are chugging along, as well. more days to regret passing memory-less? photo-less, perhaps, but definitely not memory-less...

but i should really bring my camera along.
